The gay press of the 1980’s and ’90’s - The Pink Paper, Boyz, Capital Gay, QX - were the social media of the late 20th century
Printed weekly and distributed free in gay pubs and clubs, they were a lifeline, a vital source of news and a community hub
They were also a laugh and reasonable wank fodder for a quiet Thursday night with a bottle of poppers
Former Boyz cover girl Amy Lamé (circa 1996) reminises with legendary Boyz editor Simon Gage, Diva editor turned psychotherapist Chance Czyzselska and Elaine McKenzie, owner of legendary women only venue The Glass Bar - to reflect on the halcyon days of print in pubs, before the internet worked properly
Plus lesbian laureate Joelle Taylor pens a new poem about the personal ads in The Pink Paper
All queer life was here: from potential partners to international visa and immigration buddies to a few drops of spunk for the turkey baster
And lonely hearts badge making with Dr Duckie
